One of the oldest means of transportation has become the modern and largest backed methods for getting around San Diego. Taken from the lyrics of England’s band Queen which is also immense on getting around on bikes and use for public transportation:

Within the past year, San Diego has introduced DecoBikes, a public bike sharing program for those local commuters and visitors demanding a cleaner and healthier way to enjoy the city. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, bicyclist still only account for 0.6 percent of all commuters, but have become the largest percentage of commuting modes. Advocate groups like the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition and the city politicians have been working closely together to have budgets approved for wider designated bike lanes, vehicle distance laws and improved marked routes to “get more people riding, save lives and reach our climate action plan goals”, Andy Hanshaw.

Several biking events are offered each year that cater to all levels of riders while providing scenic views of the Big Bay, La Jolla to Oceanside, and the Mountains from Escondido to the Cleveland National Forest. Bike the Bay held in August, gives the serious and not so serious bike rider a 25 mile route experience of a picturesque bayside ride and also enjoy their only opportunity of the year to ride over the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge through the cities of San Diego, Coronado, Imperial Beach, Chula Vista and National City and finishes at Embarcadero Marina Park South with a celebratory party back where you started.

The Century Ride 2015 in Southern California meets Italy at the Giro di San Diego Gran Fondo, a celebration of cycling, food, and San Diego’s North Coast. The East County’s desert trails and rocky mountain paths found in Mission Trails Regional Park can offer the exploratory mountain bikers numerous unspoiled paths of challenging and leisurely rides. Further out in East County, “Noble Canyon is considered to be one of the best most technically challenging trails around Southern California with narrow single track, gnarly rocks and tight switchbacks. This ride takes you through three distinct ecosystems. You start out in alpine meadows and oak trees that transitions into typical Southern California chaparral and finally into the arid desert climate near the Anza-Borrego desert. At some times of the year you can start the ride will plenty of snow on the trail and by the end of the ride be in 85 degree desert heat”, MoutainBikeBill.com.
